• The driver is rarely at a desk. Field-based drivers are hard to reach, work to their own schedules and cannot easily drop a vehicle off in working hours.

• They are not interchangeable. A racked, signwritten, spec-specific van cannot simply be swapped for whatever the hire company has available.
• Tyres and brakes go sooner. Loaded vans wear consumables faster, so inspection intervals that suit a car fleet are not enough.
